Help & Documentation

Everything you need to know about using SuperVideo. From your first recording to advanced editing and export.

Getting Started

System Requirements

SuperVideo requires macOS 14.6 (Sonoma) or later. It runs natively on both Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3, M4) and Intel Macs. There is no Windows or Linux version — SuperVideo is built exclusively for macOS using native Apple frameworks for the best possible performance.

Download & Installation

Download SuperVideo from our website or the Mac App Store. If you download the DMG from our website, open it and drag SuperVideo to your Applications folder. Launch it from Applications or Spotlight (press Cmd+Space and type "SuperVideo").

Permissions Setup

When you first launch SuperVideo, it will ask for several macOS permissions. Each one enables a specific feature: • Screen Recording — Required to capture your screen or individual windows. • Camera — Needed for the webcam overlay feature. • Microphone — Required to record audio commentary. • Accessibility — Enables cursor highlighting and click animations in recordings. • Speech Recognition — Powers the on-device auto subtitles feature. • Calendar — Detects upcoming meetings to offer recording prompts. • Automation — Reads browser tabs to detect active meetings (Google Meet, Zoom, Teams). You can grant or revoke any permission at any time in System Settings → Privacy & Security. SuperVideo will work with reduced features if you skip some permissions.

Free Trial & Subscriptions

New users get a 7-day free trial with full access to every feature. No credit card required — the trial starts when you first open the app. After the trial, choose between: • Early Adopter (Lifetime) — $39 one-time payment for permanent access to all current and future features. • Monthly — $4/month billed through the App Store. Manage your subscription in System Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.

Screen Recording

Starting a Recording

To start a screen recording, click the record button in the main toolbar or use the keyboard shortcut. SuperVideo will show a source picker where you can select which window or screen to capture. Click "Start Recording" to begin.

Window vs. Screen Capture

Window capture records a single application window with its exact dimensions. The window is captured with a clean look — no desktop clutter in the background. Screen capture records your entire display, including all visible windows and the desktop. Use this when you need to show interactions between multiple apps.

Recording Settings

SuperVideo records at up to 60 frames per second at your display's native resolution (up to 4K). You can adjust frame rate in the recording settings. Higher frame rates produce smoother video but larger files.

Backgrounds & Shadows

SuperVideo automatically places your recorded window on a professional background. Choose from: • Solid colors — Clean, simple backgrounds in any color. • Gradients — Smooth color transitions for a polished look. • Wallpapers — Curated high-quality background images. • Blur — Blurred version of your desktop. You can also add a natural drop shadow to your window for depth. Adjust shadow intensity, blur, and offset in the sidebar controls.

Stopping & Saving

Click the stop button in the toolbar or the menu bar icon to end your recording. SuperVideo opens the recording in the editor where you can preview, trim, add effects, and export. Your recording is automatically saved as a SuperVideo project file (.supervideo) in your chosen location.

Screenshots

Capture Modes

SuperVideo offers window screenshot capture. Select the window you want to capture, and SuperVideo grabs it instantly at full resolution.

Styling

Just like recordings, screenshots are placed on beautiful backgrounds with shadows. You can customize the background, shadow, padding, and corner radius. Add annotations, arrows, or highlights to point out important details.

Saving & Sharing

Export screenshots as PNG or JPEG. Copy directly to clipboard for quick pasting into Slack, email, or documents. Screenshots are saved as .superscreenshot project files so you can re-edit them later.

Webcam Overlay

Enabling Webcam

Toggle the webcam overlay on or off from the recording toolbar. SuperVideo will request camera permission on first use. Your webcam feed appears as a floating overlay on your recording.

Shape Options

Choose from three webcam shapes: • Circle — Classic round webcam bubble. • Squircle — Rounded square with smooth continuous corners (like iOS app icons). • Rounded Rectangle — Standard rounded corners with adjustable radius.

Positioning & Sizing

Drag the webcam overlay to any corner or position in the preview. Resize it by dragging the edges. The webcam position and size are saved per-project, so each recording can have a different layout.

Auto Subtitles

How On-Device Transcription Works

SuperVideo uses Apple's built-in Speech framework to transcribe your audio directly on your Mac. No audio is sent to the cloud — everything happens locally. The transcription produces word-level timestamps for precise subtitle timing.

Editing Subtitles

After transcription, review and edit the generated text in the subtitle editor. Click any word to correct it. The subtitles appear on the timeline synchronized with your audio, so you can see exactly when each word is spoken.

Styling

Customize subtitle appearance: • Font family and size • Text color and background color • Position on screen (top, center, bottom) • Highlight style for the active word Preview changes in real-time as you adjust settings.

Exporting to SRT

Export your subtitles as an SRT file for use in other video editors or for uploading to platforms like YouTube. The SRT file preserves all timing information.

Audio

Audio Enhancement

SuperVideo includes one-click audio enhancement that dramatically improves voice quality. It applies: • Noise reduction — Removes background noise like fans, AC, keyboard sounds. • Voice isolation — Focuses on speech and reduces ambient sound. • Loudness normalization — Targets broadcast-standard loudness (-16 LUFS) for consistent volume. All processing happens locally using Apple's Audio Toolbox framework. Toggle enhancement on/off to compare before and after.

Audio-Only Recording

SuperVideo can record audio without video — perfect for podcasts, voice memos, or meeting notes. Start an audio recording from the main toolbar. The recording appears in the timeline editor where you can trim, enhance, and export it.

Meeting Transcription

When you record a meeting (using screen or audio capture), SuperVideo can automatically transcribe the conversation. The transcription uses the same on-device AI as auto subtitles, so nothing is uploaded. Use the transcript to search for specific moments or export as a text file.

Timeline Editor

Track Types

The timeline supports multiple track types: • Video track — Your screen recording or webcam footage. • Audio track — Microphone, system audio, or standalone audio recordings. • Subtitle track — Auto-generated or manually created subtitles. Each track is displayed as a lane in the timeline with its own controls.

Trimming & Splitting

Drag the edges of any clip to trim from the beginning or end. Use the split tool (or press S) to cut a clip at the playhead position. Delete unwanted sections by selecting them and pressing Delete. All edits are non-destructive — your original recording is never modified.

Multi-Track Editing

Arrange multiple tracks vertically in the timeline. Audio and video tracks play simultaneously. Move clips by dragging them along the timeline. Zoom in and out to work at different levels of detail — from a bird's-eye view of your entire project to frame-level precision.

Export

Format Options

SuperVideo supports three export codecs: • H.264 — Universal compatibility. Works everywhere: YouTube, Twitter, Slack, email. • HEVC (H.265) — Smaller file size at the same quality. Best for Apple ecosystem and modern platforms. • ProRes — Professional-grade codec with no compression artifacts. Ideal for further editing in Final Cut Pro or DaVinci Resolve. Choose the format that matches your destination.

Resolution & Quality

Export at up to 4K (3840×2160) at 60 frames per second. Quality presets help you balance file size and visual quality: • High — Best quality, larger files. Use for portfolio pieces or professional deliverables. • Medium — Good quality with reasonable file size. Great for social media. • Custom — Fine-tune bitrate and quality settings manually.

Aspect Ratios

Export in different aspect ratios to match your platform: • 16:9 — Standard widescreen. YouTube, websites, presentations. • 9:16 — Vertical video. Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts. • 1:1 — Square. Instagram posts, LinkedIn. • 4:3 — Classic. Some presentation formats. • Custom — Set any dimensions you need.

Troubleshooting

Screen Recording Not Starting

If screen recording doesn't start: 1. Check that Screen Recording permission is granted in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen Recording. 2. If SuperVideo appears in the list but recording still fails, toggle the permission off and on again. 3. Restart SuperVideo after changing permissions. 4. Make sure no other app is exclusively capturing the screen.

No Audio in Recording

If your recording has no audio: 1. Check Microphone permission in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone. 2. Verify the correct input device is selected in SuperVideo's audio settings. 3. For system audio capture, make sure the System Audio permission is granted. 4. Test your microphone in System Settings → Sound → Input to confirm it's working.

Webcam Not Showing

If the webcam overlay doesn't appear: 1. Check Camera permission in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera. 2. Make sure no other app (Zoom, FaceTime, etc.) is exclusively using the camera. 3. Try disconnecting and reconnecting external webcams. 4. Restart SuperVideo after granting camera permission.

Subtitles Not Generating

If auto subtitles fail to generate: 1. Check Speech Recognition permission in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Speech Recognition. 2. Make sure your recording has audible speech — very quiet audio may not transcribe. 3. Ensure the correct language model is available on your Mac. You may need to download it in System Settings → General → Language & Region. 4. Try enhancing the audio first, then generating subtitles from the improved audio.

Export Issues

If exports fail or produce unexpected results: 1. Check that you have enough free disk space. Video exports can be several GB for long, high-quality recordings. 2. Try a different export format (H.264 is the most compatible). 3. Reduce resolution or quality if the export is running out of memory. 4. If the export stalls, force-quit SuperVideo and try again.
